UPSC Addresses Aspirant Concerns with Revised Application Process

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has made several changes to its online application system for the 2025 Civil Services Examination. These updates follow concerns and technical difficulties reported by aspiring civil servants during the initial application phase.

Key Changes Introduced by UPSC:

  • Increased Edibility: Several key fields in the One-Time Registration (OTR) profile can now be edited. These include:
    • Have you ever changed name?
    • Gender
    • Minority Status
    • Class 10th Board Examination Roll No.
    • These fields can be modified until the final application submission and during the designated correction window.
  • Restricted Changes: Certain crucial fields remain non-editable:
    • Name (as per Class X)
    • Date of Birth
    • Father’s Name
    • Mother’s Name
    • Mobile Number
    • Email ID
  • Mobile/Email ID Recovery:
    • If a candidate loses access to their registered mobile number but retains access to their registered email ID, they can apply for a mobile number change. An OTP will be sent to the registered email ID for verification.
    • Similarly, if a candidate loses access to their registered email ID but retains access to their registered mobile number, they can apply for an email ID change. An OTP will be sent to the registered mobile number for verification.
    • If a candidate loses access to both their registered mobile number and email ID, they must submit a request to the Commission at otrupsc@gov.in. This request must include supporting documents such as matriculation certificate, Aadhaar card, PAN card, Passport, driving license, a recent passport-size photograph, and an undertaking in the prescribed format.
  • PwBD Candidate Support:
    • PwBD (Persons with Benchmark Disability) candidates who require assistance from their own scribe for the Preliminary Exam must provide the scribe’s details during the application process.
    • PwBD candidates may voluntarily provide scribe details for the Main Examination while applying for the Preliminary Exam. They can update or provide these details during a window that will be made available after the declaration of the Preliminary Exam results.
  • Name Change and Mismatches:
    • Candidates whose names have changed and do not match their matriculation or higher educational certificates are required to submit a gazette notification.
    • If the gazette notification is not readily available, candidates can upload it during the correction window after the Preliminary Exam results are announced.
  • Integrated Master’s Degrees:
    • Candidates with integrated master’s degrees (combining graduation and post-graduation) can enter the same course details in both the graduation and higher qualification columns.
  • Correction Window:
    • A correction window will be open for seven days from the day after the application deadline closes (February 19-25, 2025).
    • Candidates are strongly advised to carefully review all entries before final submission, as changes after submission can only be made during this correction window.

Important Dates:

  • Last Date for Registration: February 18, 2025 (6:00 PM)
  • Preliminary Examination Date: May 25, 2025
  • Expected Vacancies: Approximately 979 (including 38 reserved for PwBD candidates)
